chairmans newsletter

and a bit of febuary :-)

We have had an interesting start to 2026, to be honest it hasn’t been an easy one. With the knowledge that one of our biggest contributors (Waitrose Knutsford) is having a shop refit, that will last 4 weeks, it really won’t be easy. However we have already started planning for this at the trustees meeting. It is only through relationships that we have built up as a charity and individually, that we can make sure that the people who come to our food hubs, can still come each week.

I am happy to say we continue to get requests for volunteer requests. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our treasurer Paul, we have kept a steady inflow. He has done this by changing the induction process by which people join our charity. Rather than just going to one hub, he shows them the whole process and moves them between areas such as pantry, premium and fruit and vegetables. This is so that they get a more rounded view of the charity as a whole and we may find hidden areas of expertise.

An important change that happened at our AGM to the NCS Constitution has now been added to the charity commission website. For those who want a little light reading, you will find the NCS Constitution on our website. It details all what we do and how we function as a charity and is a vital part of NCS. The section amended/added is 9.5, which is regarding volunteer membership.

One of the local groups NCS has been helping is the Dementia Café. One of our longest charity supporters Helen helps to run the Demential Cafe Winnington (1st Friday every month 2-4pm. This again is run by volunteers at various locations around Northwich. We supply the Demential Cafe with tea, coffee and sugar etc. We also discussed students from the Russett School in Weaverham attending the Weaverham hub, to help them get experience socially. We agreed on one student for a six week period. Unfortunately not many charities/organisations take on SEND children because they can have complex needs, however our very own trustee Lynn is keen to be involved.

That’s it for this newsletter and remember as always, if you have any questions or ideas, please email me.
