chairman's newsletter

September newsletter

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well.

Someone told me a very interesting statistic the other day and I thought I would start this newsletter by sharing it with you.

I was having a conversation with a member of Rotary Northwich (Keith) and he wanted to know how many people we help? To be honest, other than the announcements at the end of the hub, I hadn’t given it a lot of consideration. So I did a little adding and came up with an approximate number and gave it to him. Then came another conversation, to protect his identity, let’s call him Brian…. ops! He then told me that it was higher because of the donations that are passed onto Victoria House and Cheshire Without Abuse etc. He came up with a figure per year of 13,000 people. I think that’s pretty amazing.

Ecolab continue to be a help to local people. On 27th August I attended a family fun open day at Ecolab Northwich. For people that don’t know Ecolab is an international business that specialises is the production of cleaning products. This was the 2nd year they had done their family fun day and I must say it was good fun. Our very own Sandra Higgins and Angelika Porter were there as they both work at Ecolab, as well as Deb Egerton from Rotary to help set up a giant buzzer game! We handed out NCS flyers to spread the word and spoke to plenty of people. Last month you will remember Ecolab gave NCS a $500 as 'Dollars for Doers'. Well Sandra has done it again by applying for it again and yes we got it! So another big thank you to Ecolab and Sandra.

I would like to highlight a special relationship NCS have with another local charity. Many of you will have heard of CLT (Changing Lives Together). We have had an interesting relationship with them over the years. Some saw our relationship as a competition between two local charities. However, thanks to a friendship between a number of our trustees (Brian and Jen) and CLT senior leadership, the competition is now a distant memory. I am happy to say that for the past few years, we have worked in conjunction with CLT. The ethos of both charities are very much the same, as we both agree on helping people and families in our community. We both share food donations where possible and contacts we have made if we believe it will help the other organisation. Long may this relationship continue.

Recently a number of you have been doing a little extra than normal to help out. These can be small jobs such as taking crates to Waitrose or M&S and taking sandwiches and fruit to Victoria House. Thank you to everyone that has put themselves forward as these jobs can mount up quite quickly.

Lastly, I would like to welcome 2 new trustees to our group of trustees, Chris and Vanessa. We unanimously voted them in during the recent trustee meeting on 17th September. I hope they will enjoy our meetings and we all look forward to hearing any ideas they might have. As a reminder, we have our AGM on Saturday 1st November 10am at the Lighthouse Weaverham. We would love to see as many people there as possible as you all have a vote.

Thats all for this month, but if you have any questions you would like us to go over at the next meeting, please email me at chairman.ncs1@gmail.com.
