august newsletter
I’d like to start this message by thanking everyone that volunteers with us. Your continued support that you give to our charity is invaluable. We all know there are plenty of other charities out there that do their bit, so thank you for giving your time to help ours.
The need for what we all do is getting greater, with the cost of goods and services inevitably increasing year on year. As we go through August, so far we have had 238 people come through our doors. But remember, that is just individuals, most of these people will have families at home, so even if we double that to 476, that’s a lot of people we have kept fed.
A relatively recent decision made by the NCS trustees, was to stop the Christmas hampers and Easter eggs to schools. You may ask how we came to that decision? To be honest it wasn’t an easy decision, however it was one that we all felt had to be made. For quite a few years now, NCS has been supporting schools in Northwich at quite a cost to the charity, both in time and money. It also is important to say that other organisations have been doing the same. We therefore thought we should take another approach and begin to help other groups in Northwich that don’t get as much attention, such as the elderly. You may also see that we have also increased the items on the pantry, this is also part of a trial to see if it makes a difference to our patrons. The new approach is to help support individuals and families all year round.
I personally contacted each school to let them know about our decision. Thankfully, the feedback was positive. They thanked us for our support over the years and understood why we had taken the decision.
Some of you may know about Ecolab Northwich. They are a science-based company that is a leader in offering water, hygiene and infection prevention solutions. As a part of their corporate strategy, they have a ‘Dollars for Doers’ scheme which selects charities to donate to in their community. I am happy to say they our very own Sandra Higgins (an employee of Ecolab), entered NCS to win the donation 🥁……….and yes we won $500! A big thank you to Ecolab and Sandra for applying.
On a very positive note, we have had a number of new volunteers join us over the past few months, which is brilliant! Thanks to Paul Billington (our treasurer and head of new volunteer induction), we have started a new method of introducing volunteers to NCS. This process involves meeting with Paul at Sure Store and then meeting with me as Chairman, to discuss different aspects of the charity that they might not have been aware of at first. That being said, if any existing volunteers have not yet seen what happens in the back ground, please let Paul or myself know and we will be more than happy to talk you through it.
I would also like to extend a big thank you to Northwich Rotary. They do the majority of our food deliveries 4 days a week, so without their support we would be swamped.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to email me at chairman.ncs1@gmail.com and I will do my best to answer them.
That’s all for now folks, see you all soon.
